  Rachel Ballard

Born in Chicago of truly Welsh parents, educated in England & trained at the Welsh School of Architecture. She returned to Wales to paint water-colours & write poetry after 30 years work as an architect & planner mostly on public sector housing in London, Belfast and Merseyside. Her first collection of poems & prints was published by the Collective Press in 1996.
 

                                                              MANDRAGORA 
                                                                 (an epitaph)  

                                                            Weep me no willow,  
                                                            I've found the greener grass;  
                                                            no rosemary for me, nor rue,  
                                                            but   .   .  if you must,  
                                                            just a touch of mandragora,  
                                                            and a poppy or two.
